Customizing the purchase confirmation email

  • Updated

Hinweis.png After purchasing a product, your customer will receive a confirmation email with additional information, e.g. download link or the possibility to create a password for your online course.

You can either

  • use our standard email or
  • provide a custom email and provide it with appropriate variables and thus customize the communication with your customers.

If you do not deliver the purchase confirmation email through elopage, you can deactivate it.

Here are a few >> tips for your purchase confirmation email

 Overview of this article

Step 1: View the configuration area for the purchase confirmation email

  • Go to your product and click "Edit".
  • Click on "Delivery" and on
  • Confirmation e-mail
  • Click on "Create your own email"

Step 2: Customize your email

You can

  • save the subject and the email in German or English.
  • save the text including variables and buttons in the content and
  • send yourself a test email.

We have already given a sample text in the text area. This already contains placeholders for the display of

  • dynamic content such as first name or product name etc. or
  • a button for additional actions.

hinweis.png Important

For online courses, conventions or memberships, you should make it as easy as possible for your customer to find the login page for the respective course.

It is best to provide the login page for your course in the email and ask that your customer save it as a bookmark.

Or create a navigation point "Course login" on your website and then link your login page.

Here we have prepared a few >> tips for the purchase confirmation email  for you.

Details on individual points

hinweis.png Please use only the relevant parameters. If you have only entered the minimum term, but not an extension, in the payment plan, only use the parameters for the minimum term.

Minimum term

  • Minimum term %{minimum_terms_duration}

  • End of the minimum term %{minimum_terms_end_date}

Extension of the minimum term

  • Extension Period %{minimum_terms_extension_duration}

  • End of the next renewal period %{minimum_terms_extension_end_date}

Example text:

The subscription includes a minimum term of %{minimum_terms_duration}, that means you can get the subscription with effect from %{minimum_terms_end_date} via your payment manage link. The subscription continues without cancellation %{minimum_terms_extension_duration}. The next termination date after the minimum term has expired is %{minimum_terms_extension_end_date}.

3. E-Ticket: Purchase confirmation email for participants

If you set under "Templates" and "Payment pages" / "Settings for paid products" for your checkout page for E-Tickets that participants can be specified when purchasing, the following parameters are available to you for these notifications in product processing under "Delivery:"

Participant data

  • %{attendee_first_name} - First name of participant
  • %{attendee_last_name} - Last name of participant

4. Buttons

You can also use three different buttons.

You can also customize all three buttons with HTML to adapt them to your design. You can change:

  • the text
  • the color
  • the size
  • etc

To insert the code, click the </> icon in the editor to turn on HTML mode.

You can then insert the code there. Copy the code below from <a href to </a> to the clipboard and paste it into the HTML area of the purchase confirmation email.

  • NEXT

    This button should always be included.
    If your customer buys a course, he or she comes to the login page or the page to create a password.
    If the person buys another product, they will automatically be redirected to the elopage thank you page (see below).

    HTML code:
    <a href='%{next_page_link}' style='border-radius: 3px; width: 140px; height: 40px; background-color: #ffb900; font-weight:bold; letter-spacing:normal; line-height:40px; text-align:center; text-decoration:none; color:#ffffff; display:inline-block' target='_blank'>NEXT</a>

  • elopage thank you page

    This button leads to the elopage thank you page. Here the customer can find their invoice and the product to download (eTicket, voucher, download product).

    % {success_page_link}

    HTML code:
    <a href='%{success_page_link}' style='border-radius: 3px; width: 140px; height: 40px; background-color: #ffb900; font-weight:bold; letter-spacing:normal; line-height:40px; text-align:center; text-decoration:none; color:#ffffff; display:inline-block' target='_blank'>CLICK HERE</a>

  • Payment manage page for customers

    Each customer has their own >> payment page, which is especially important for subscriptions and installment payments and also purchase on account.

    Via this page your customer
  • can trigger and pay the next installment
  • view all installments and dates
  • change the payment method
  • cancel the subscription.

    Via the parameter %{payment_manage_url} you can include the link directly in the purchase confirmation email.

    This is particularly important if you have made the following settings in the pricing plan:
  • test period
  • fixed due date
  • payment intervals of less than 8 days
  • and the next payment is due in less than 8 days, as we will send the payment reminder 7 days before the due date.

    But even for customers who use PayPal, it can be important that they have the link to this page right from the start.

  • Magic Link

You can give your customers a magic link via the parameter %{magic_link} if you have booked the necessary app for it. This ensures that your customers end up in their account or in the product purchased from you without logging in. How you can activate the magic- link and your customers can log in with the magic link is described in the respective articles.

Hinweis.png  Tip!
Build the parameter either as a link or in a button. Otherwise it is only displayed as text.

  • Your own thank you page

    If you have stored your own >> thank you page in the product, to which your customer will be forwarded after payment, you can also enter a button to view it in the email.

    If a customer has purchased in advance, he can also use this button to access your own thank you page - stored in the product. If the payment is unsuccessful when making a purchase, they will be redirected to the page with the payment information and not to your thank you page.

    % {redirection_link}

    HTML code:

    <a href='%{redirection_link}' style='border-radius: 3px; width: 140px; height: 40px; background-color: #ffb900; font-weight:bold; letter-spacing:normal; line-height:40px; text-align:center; text-decoration:none; color:#ffffff; display:inline-block' target='_blank'>CLICK HERE</a>

  • License code for product codes / Key

    If you are using the product codes / Key, the code for your customer is delivered via the elopage thank you page and also in the standard purchase confirmation email.

    If you use an individual purchase confirmation email, then store the following parameters there if the code should also be displayed in the email. If the product can be purchased several times, all codes separated by commas are displayed there according to the purchased number.

    Example of the result:

5. Special parameters for automatic onboarding of buyers as publishers for your affiliate program

If you have activated an affiliate program for this product and the automatic >>onboarding of the buyer as a publisher, then you should include the following parameters in the purchase confirmation email so that your new publisher can start immediately.

hinweis.png Important: Please only use the parameters if you have configured the appropriate settings for the product. Otherwise the tracking links will not work.

You can use the following parameters to add the URL to the following pages.

  • Tracking link to the product page with the publisher ID and program ID

  • Link to the password creation or login page

    This takes the publisher either to the page for creating a password (e.g. as a new customer who buys a product that is not an online course) or to the login page (if he:she already has a password for the buyer account or another account with this email address).

    Here it makes sense to generate a button using the following HTML code:

    HTML code:

    <a href=“%{confirmation_url}” style=“border-radius: 3px; width: 140px; height: 40px; background-color: #ffb900; font-weight:bold; letter-spacing:normal; line-height:40px; text-align:center; text-decoration:none; color:#ffffff; display:inline-block;” target=“_blank”>Create password / log in</a>

Step 3: Send test email

The test email will be sent to you. With this you can check the formatting of your mail.

info.png Please Note: The price in the test e-mail is always given as 10 euros. The correct price is then stored when purchasing.
