With elopage you already have everything you need to sell quickly on your checkout page. Nevertheless, there are always individual requests that you want to add to your checkout page and for which you request data or a confirmation from your customers (opt-in). This can be, for example, a checkbox, a general free field or a newsletter check.
There are custom fields for the checkout page for this purpose. These are displayed above the purchase button. You can choose whether
- a customer confirms something by selecting (opt-in), e.g. that he is of legal age or that he would like to order your newsletter
- he enters data (e.g. special meal requests for your seminar or his T-shirt size for your welcome gift).
How do I create a custom field?
In your dashboard go to:
- "Templates" and "Custom fields".
There you will find the area in which you will initially create your fields. You can attach the fields that you create here to any product afterwards.
To create a new custom field:
- click the "Add" button in the upper right corner.
A pop-up will now open in which you can set up the new field directly:
This title is internal. It is the name of your custom field that you can see in the overview of your custom fields and also in the drop-down menu for your products.
Here you choose which type of custom field you would like to have. You can select between:
- Free field entry
If you want to have several fields, you configure different fields for this template, e.g. a checkbox and a free text field.
The text that you enter here is then on the checkout page next to the field. Explain what the field is about, ask your question, etc.
If you would like to link to a website, use an HTML a href as in:
With the switcher you determine whether it is a mandatory requirement (e.g. if you want to specify separate terms and conditions again) or whether the purchase can take place without activating the checkbox or filling out the free field.
Attention, GDPR: With the entry into force of the GDPR, it is no longer allowed to create the opt-in for the newsletter as a mandatory field for the purchase! In other words, the customer must be able to purchase the product without having to subscribe to your newsletter.
If you have entered everything, click on "Save" and your field is created. You can now find it in your overview under "Templates", as well as in the individual products under "Custom fields."
The individual custom field types
You can create a checkbox, for example if you want to have additional terms and conditions confirmed, implement a short yes/no survey or perhaps want to ensure that your customers have read and understood certain information.
Free field entry
Here you can ask open questions or ask for brief feedback. The customers then see a free text field that they can freely describe.
With the Newsletter field type, you can offer the opt-in to your newsletter when purchasing. Be sure to note here
- the requirements of the GDPR (e.g. the opt-in must not be a mandatory field that has to be confirmed for the purchase of the product) and
- that you save a different destination (e.g. list) here than in the app itself, otherwise we will send all customers to the same destination (due to the purchase and due to the activated checkbox) and you cannot see who has clicked the checkbox and who has not.

You give a songwriting course.
- Some participants will come for this and may want accommodation tips / hotel recommendations. Store a checkbox for this purpose.
- You want to know what kind of music the participants like in order to adapt to your participants more individually? Then store a free text field for this purpose.
Connect the custom field with the product
As mentioned above, the custom fields are templates that you can attach to any product:
- Go to your "Product".
- Go to "Edit".
- Select the tab "Checkout page".
Here you can find the custom fields point:
- Select the appropriate field in the drop-down menu.
- Then click on "Save."
You can now find the custom field on your checkout page, directly under the payment methods and above the terms and conditions.
Important information about the custom fields
Always only one custom field per product
You can always only insert "one custom field" per checkout page. You can create as many field types as you want for each custom field template.
Display of the field types on the custom field overview
On the overview of your custom fields under "Templates" and "Custom fields", you can always see exactly which field types you have created for each custom field. You can view:
- the title of the custom field
- the text of the individual types
- the type itself
- the setting mandatory field and
- any linked apps
at a glance. This makes it easier for you to keep track of things.
The IDs of your custom fields
You will find different IDs in your overview. Once directly in the "ID" column, once in the "Text" column.
The ID that is shown here applies to the entire custom field, including all created field types.
The IDs in this column refer to the individual field types.
With the IDs you can later search for custom fields or individual field types in the analysis in your CSV file.
Evaluation of the custom fields after the purchase
After the purchase you can see the answers of the customers in your CSV file. You can easily download the file under "Transfers." You can also filter here, e.g. by month, products, etc. Create the list you need and download it as a CSV file.
In the CSV file, you will find the custom fields and the answers entered by the customer for each transfer at the end (or you can simply search for the ID directly).
The following data is forwarded from the custom fields:
- Free field: Entered response from the customer
- Checkbox: "Yes" if the box was clicked, "No" if it was not clicked.
- Newsletter: "Yes" if the box was clicked, "No" if it was not clicked.
