Would you like to create your content via an access-protected area and continuously supplement the content? What is the better option? A course or membership and how does this affect the duration or drip-in of the course pages?
1. Single online course
You can offer your content as a single online course and continuously supplement the content, e.g. with new videos from webinars or additional content pages and quizzes.
When creating, decide first whether the course starts on a certain date or directly after your customer gets access - usually after payment - depending on the setting of the pricing plan.
This also depends on
- which options you have to release the content on a time-controlled basis and
- the term you've set, unless you've set a lifetime.
In the online course you can use the following features if they are included in your package:
- Quiz with questions and answer options or free text answers
- Comment function that your participants can use to exchange ideas on the page
- Display of the Done button to mark pages as completed and display the course progress or to display a quiz
- Award function with which you can deliver another product free of charge after passing a quiz (certificate of participation or certificate of passing or another online course)
- Time-controlled activation of pages (start and end of activation)
- Event emails - automatically sent email for the drip-in of the page or when a page has been marked as completed
- For "non-static" courses, you can also rename the button "Done," e.g. to "Start quiz."
Custom design
If you have the Customization app in the package, you can also create an online course theme and customize the design of your course.
For courses that contain menus, you can use the "Course overview" feature to display these menus with their own image and name for the button on a page upstream of the course, the course overview.
Example course overview
Here the three menu items Lesson 1 - Lesson 3 are activated as a course overview, while the course itself has 2 additional menu items.
Here is the course that is displayed when you click on one of the buttons "START" in the course overview.
2. Multi-course membership
If you prefer to divide your content into several courses (e.g. to offer them individually or as a taster course) or set up an academy, then you should split your content into individual courses from the outset and then add them to the product "Membership."
If your participant clicks on the membership, the product will be displayed in the design of your membership theme where you can also add additional content on the homepage (e.g. contact form, testimonials, advertising for other products).
The individual courses are then displayed as a single block, similar to the course overview.
Duration of the membership
The membership does not have its own term, but the term for how long a participant can view the product of type Membership depends on the selected pricing plan.
Examples:
One-time payment - lifetime
Completed installment payment - lifetime
Limited subscription completed - lifetime
Current subscription - until cancellation. If a payment is missing, access will be blocked until the next payment.
If your courses in the membership have a duration or the pages in the course have a drop-out, then the membership can be viewed, but the course or course page is then limited and expires according to your settings.
The duration of the included courses
The duration of the courses included in the membership depends on the setting under "Duration & Access." If you have limited the duration of the course and the course is viewed from the membership, your customer will receive the message that the course expired on xx.xx.xx.
If you provide "lifelong" in the courses, your customers have access to the course as long as they have access to the membership.
If a payment for the membership is outstanding with the subscription, you will not be able to access the courses included in the membership.
Drip-In
Course "from payment"
If the courses are "from payment," then the drip-in for each course starts with the delivery. If the courses are to be activated gradually, the drip-in is calculated according to the day of delivery of the course.
If you only provide courses after the membership has already been sold, the drip-in starts for courses with the setting "from payment" on the day you add the course.
Example:
The membership was purchased on 01.02. The following courses with the setting "from payment" were already included in the purchase.
Course 1, Drip-In 0 - Page activation with delivery of the membership
Course 2, Drip-In 30 - Page activation 30 days after delivery of the membership
Course 3 - Drip-In 0, will be added to the membership on 15.03. - > page activation on 15.03. for existing customers.
Course "from date"
If your courses are "from date," then the date you set for the calculation of the course duration and the activation of the pages is identical for all customers, no matter when you add them to the membership.
